On Sunday, July 7, over 14 million Americans watched as Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe and the U.S. Women’s National Team (U.S. WNT) won their fourth FIFA Women’s World Cup title in a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands. The Stone Ward Chicago team was on-site with our clients at U.S. Soccer headquarters to provide real-time creative support, informing, engaging and inspiring millions of U.S. Soccer fans on social media. Throughout the course of the World Cup, Stone Ward created over 1,000 customized graphics and assets for the U.S. WNT, their partners and numerous professional teams who wanted to show their support.
When a team wins the World Cup, in addition to receiving a trophy, the national team earns a star that lives above the crest on the jersey. To get fans excited about the high stakes of the final game, one of the first posts that day was an inspirational image that exuded patriotism and pride and carried the rally cry — Together for the Star. The Stone Ward Chicago team designed a wide range of custom social media graphics, but none was more popular than the 23-player montage which had almost half a million likes in the hours after the game.
America is a nation that loves sports, but it’s only during certain events that we unite behind a national team with a shared goal — one reason why U.S. Soccer uses “One Nation. One Team.” as its tagline. During the World Cup, the Stone Ward Chicago office created customized graphics for teams in the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL to demonstrate to their fans that for this team, we were all united.
Throughout the month-long World Cup journey, these 23 players captured the hearts of Americans. Stone Ward developed another creative, entertaining way to engage fans through a U.S. WNT graphics generator, where fans could upload their own photo and insert themselves into a celebration graphic.
