RefuSHE

Changing the Identity of Life-Changing Work

Our relationship with RefuSHE began back when the organization was known as Heshima Kenya, the first-ever non-profit to serve refugee girls with a holistic model that considered all the girls’ needs, from safety to job skills, from community to childcare. Headquartered in Kenya and Chicago, Heshima Kenya had a problem: Though the organization was making great strides in its operations and finances, they believed their brand had much greater potential.

Heshima Kenya believed if they were able to better communicate their core work through their messaging and visual identity, they could truly unlock their growth and realize their fullest fundraising and awareness potential.

We knew this organization had a powerful message to share, and that message could only come from a powerful brand – which we built from the ground up. We walked the Heshima Kenya team through a total brand identity workshop, where the organization was given a different name, a fresh visual identity, updated key messaging points and a renewed sense of confidence.

RefuSHE Brand Guidelines

The new name, RefuSHE, clearly communicated the organization’s focus. The new logo demonstrated the organization’s position as a thought leader in the global conversation surrounding refugee girls. The key messaging points empowered the organization to best communicate its core values. No stone was left unturned as we explored the RefuSHE organization – where it has been, where it is now and where it needs to go. The result was a rock solid brand that clearly and convincingly communicated the important mission of RefuSHE.

Once the messaging was complete, Stone Ward was enlisted to launch the new brand. We helped RefuSHE make its big debut by developing a video to tell the brand story, along with a beautiful set of branded collateral that were mailed out to organization supporters to coincide with the launch announcement.

The brand launch set in motion a new wave of sponsor engagement, donor support and press accolades from around the nation and the globe, most notably from The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Special Envoy, Angelina Jolie, who visited the organization’s base of operations in Kenya. She recapped the organization’s personal impact on her life in a Harper’s Bazaar article.
