Climb higher. Go further. Dig deeper.
“What’s within you is stronger than what’s in your way.” Whether you face a big project at work, a bad habit or a disability, the strength found within yourself can overcome any barrier.
Erik Weihenmayer, vice president of the No Barriers USA Board of Directors, lives by this message. No Barriers USA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people to discover the potential that lies within themselves and the world. Weihenmayer, the only blind person to summit Mount Everest and the seven highest mountains on all continents, is living proof of that mission and a source of inspiration for all.
Earlier this year, Weihenmayer and the Executive Director of No Barriers USA, David Shurna, approached Board President,Tom Lillig, who also heads our Stone Ward Chicago office, seeking a new brand identity and a website that could convey the undefeatable power of the human spirit through words and images.
After thorough brand identity development process, Stone Ward crafted an evolution to the existing tagline that perfectly fit the boldness and introspection vital to the No Barriers programs: “What’s within you is stronger than what’s in your way.”
The logo, a symbolic depiction of a mountain, pays homage to the organization’s desire for a conceptual design that carries great meaning. The metaphor of overcoming barriers is clearly expressed in the analogy of climbing a mountain, which made this logo a natural fit for No Barriers USA.
For the website, Stone Ward combined the best practices in accessibility with a cutting-edge design that provides all users, regardless of ability, with a smooth, inspiring and informative experience. The website is optimized for blind and visually impaired users and clearly explains the organization’s three distinct programs on its homepage: Global Explorers, Soldiers to Summits and No Barriers Summit, a festival for disabled adventurers every two years.
Stone Ward and No Barriers will host an event for the formal launch of the logo, website and promotional video in Chicago this fall.
