Every four years, the world comes together for a month-long event, the World Cup. This one-of-a-kind spectacle of sport fuels the passion of fans and the pride of nations. Hearts will be pounding with every kick, header, and save. And for all but one nation in the 32-team tournament, the long four-year journey will end in heartbreak.
In 2010, South Africa will host this month-long celebration of “the beautiful game”. And the U.S. Men’s National Team will be there. The Yanks clinched their spot in the tournament in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 win against Honduras on October 10th with all five goals scored in a heart-stopping second half. This win capped off a memorable year for U.S. Soccer. The U.S. beat the #1 team in the world, Spain, in June, and assembled an impressive 6-2-1 record in World Cup qualifying matches.
The World Cup will take place from June 11th and July 11th, 2010. ESPN will present all of its’ World Cup TV studio programming on site from South Africa. It will mark the first time in ESPN history that the entirety of its World Cup coverage will originate from the event’s host nation. Every match will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC.
